Dimitri Pittas, a native New Yorker, is one of the most exciting young tenors in the opera world today. He was recently praised by The New York Times saying “his effortless and cultured singing nailed Italian-tenor style with accuracy. Mr. Pittas has a future and evidently already a present.”

In the 2007-2008 season, Mr. Pittas returns to the Metropolitan Opera for the role of Macduff in Verdi’s Macbeth in a new production by Adrian Noble and conducted by James Levine. He will return to the Grand Theatre, Bordeaux for his first performances of the title role in Gounod’s Faust and appear at L’Opera de Lille as the Duke in Rigoletto. In addition, he will appear at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall in a recital for the Marilyn Horne Foundation. He most recently performed in gala with the Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Hikotaro Yazaki.

In the 2006-2007 season he appeared as Alfredo in La traviata at Opéra de Montreal. He followed this with performances of Rodolfo in La bohème with Oper Leipzig and then the role of the Duke in Rigoletto at Opéra Bordeaux. Mr. Pittas debuted at Opera Theater of St. Louis for more performances of Alfredo before returning to Santa Fe Opera as Rodolfo. He also appeared in gala concerts in Cleveland and Atlanta.

During the 2005-2006 season Mr. Pittas performed the roles of Tybalt in Gounod’s Romeo et Juliette, First Prisoner in Beethoven’s Fidelio, Arturo in Lucia di Lammermoor and First Knight in Wagner’s Parsifal at the Metropolitan Opera where he made his debut during the 2004-2005 season as the Herald in Verdi’s Don Carlo. He also performed the role of First Armored Guard in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte and Naraboth in Richard Strauss’ Salome at Santa Fe Opera.

Previous engagements for Mr. Pittas have included Mr. Ford in Salieri’s Falstaff at the Wolf Trap Opera in the summer of 2004, where he returned in 2005, appearing in concert and opera scenes with the National Symphony Orchestra. In 2003 Mr. Pittas made his Santa Fe Opera debut in the role of Achille in Offenbach's La belle Helene.

In May 2003, he made his Pittsburgh Opera debut as Rodolfo in La Boheme, and in 2002 Mr. Pittas sang the role of Alfredo in La traviata with Opera Theatre Highland Park. Other roles in Mr. Pittas’ repertoire include Fenton in Verdi’s Falstaff, Tom Rakewell in The Rake’s Progress and Reverend Parris in The Crucible. Mr. Pittas’ concert and oratorio repertoire include Dubois’ Les sept paroles du Christ, Pergolesi’s Magnificat, Dvořák’s Stabat Mater, and Vivaldi’s Gloria.

A winner of numerous prizes and competitions, including First Prize in the Elardo International Opera Competition and the Licia Albanese/Puccini Foundation Competition, Dimitri Pittas has won career grants from the Richard Tucker, George London and Sullivan Foundations. He is a graduate of the Metropolitan Opera’s Lindemann Young Artist Development Program.
